Book Review: Man's Search for Meaning

February 19, 2011

So for the past few years this book kept coming up from people I talk to and interviews I read/watch/listen to so I decided that it was time for me to sit down and read it.

The book focuses on the psychological standpoint of the prisoners in the Nazi concentration camps during World War 2 and what the difference was between the prisoners who survived and those who died. The main conclusion was that those who survived were those who developed a reason for doing so. Whether that reason was to see their loved ones again, to continue their work in their career or as one man put it, "to be able to tell the story to others to make sure this never happens again".

He argues that while everything can be taken away from you, there is only one thing that cannot be, your attitude and how you react to the circumstance. This may sound cheesy but this is coming from a guy who was in these camps for years! It definitely makes you take a new perspective on life and is extremely powerful!
